On May 19th the Twin Valley Rotary club was proud to honor Twin Valley High School seniors Sofia Palyan and Oliver Savage. The presentation was made at their weekly meeting. Sofia and Oliver were honored for their participation in extracurricular activities and outstanding academic achievement. Sofia Palyan has been a highly involved individual and member of the Twin Valley community. She has been involved in Twin Valley Heroes, National Honors Society, and varsity softball. Sofia has challenged herself in the classroom taking AP United States history, AP Language and Composition, AP Psychology, college level dual enrollment English, and a bunch of honors classes throughout all four years. She also made a difference on the softball field, starting on the 2018 District Winning team her freshman year and receiving the TVHS Most Improved award that year. Then sophomore year, she was also a part of the 2019 County and District winning team, starting, and winning TVHS Coaches Award. So far as a senior she has continued to greatly contribute to the team’s success with a current record of 15-1 and hoping to make it as far into playoffs as possible. Throughout her high school career, she has also spent much time with Travel softball, as she has played for Virginia Glory Premier Fast pitch, traveling the country to face the best competition all summer and weekends in the fall. The time commitment for academics and athletics she has put into her high school career has made her very successful up to this point. She has been able to balance her social life, school, and sports, while trying to make money from babysitting and volunteering with community service from National Honors Society. Sofia’s plans are to attend Merrimack College to play division one softball up in Massachusetts. She plans to pursue a career in sports management or sports psychology. Her dream job would be to manage or work with a college or professional sports program. Sofia credits most of her success and life opportunities to her parents, Sheri and Joe Palyan and older brother Josh Palyan who was a good athlete at Twin Valley four years ago. They are her biggest supporters and have done so much to help her succeed and stay happy in life.
My name is Oliver Savage. I was captain of the football team and a 3-year varsity letter winner, and wrestled for my senior year as a varsity letter winner. I have taken several AP classes, mostly within science and math where I have found the most interest, and maintained the honor roll throughout high school. However, the social part of high school was my favorite part, being able to make friends and talk with everyone from different grades and the amazing teachers made it such a great experience. Even amid the pandemic, the high school internship office helped me intern with a local Civil Engineering Company and take my first big steps into my field of interest. After graduating, I am attending Drexel University for engineering, where I hope to find my passion within the field through their co-op program. I will miss everyone I have come so close to in Twin Valley, but I hope to find just as great of a community in college.
