The Rotary Club of Twin Valley sponsored a one year old service dog that we named “Sky”, and here is an update on his progress.

For his initial training Sky went to the womens prison at Cambridge Springs on May 19th. He is doing quite well considering he started his training as an adult and not a puppy. He was quite skittish when he arrived and didn’t want to let his handlers out of sight, but he is now gaining confidence, beginning to trust his handlers more, and can remain quietly tethered at their work-sites when they are out of eyesight. He is also walking nicely on a loose leash—a big plus. Like all of their dogs, Sky has a few issues to deal with, but he is making good progress.
The women at the prison have been thrilled to have Sky, who is a rescued animal, as they see it as a second chance for him. They are spending many hours and working hard to help him become the best that he can be. Sky is scheduled to return to the Canine Partners For Life kennel this fall to begin the formal part of his training.
