Zoe Curtis
Last summer, Zoe completed her Eagle Project at Twin Valley High School. It was in the Senior Lounge, which was outside and landlocked. There was a little pond in the back of the lounge, which was overgrown with shrubs and was not useful to the students anymore. Zoe took everything out of the pond, including the trash, shrubs, liner, and surrounding plants. She paved over it and put two picnic tables, which are made out of recycled plastic. She also painted a mural on one of the walls, put in a birdhouse in one of the trees, put in a solar powered fountain, and a rock garden that contained painted rocks with encouraging phrases for the students. Since it was landlocked, everything had to be brought in and out with wheelbarrows. Zoe and her team had to bring out six tons of dirt, bushes, two small trees, and rocks; they had to bring in all of their heavy equipment, all the pavers, modified stone, and bags of polymeric sand.
Zoe selected this project as her Eagle Project because it presented an opportunity to improve a space for many people to utilize. She learned many lessons that she will carry with her throughout her life. For example: safety of everyone, which includes escape plans, safety gear that people should wear, age limits on tools, and time management.
Zoe is also in multiple clubs at Twin Valley High School., including the National Honors Society (NHS), jazz band, concert band, marching band, chorus, indoor percussion, the girl’s tennis team, HBEC Heroes, and BSA Scouts.
